We're excited you're trying out the Magazine Creator! Thanks for checking it out.
Why might I use the Magazine Creator?
You might have worked hard on creating the most comprehensive source of information on Petunia Dursley, or maybe you loved finding out who Sargeras is and why he's such a meanie. Magazine Creator will do exactly what it says on the tin - create a great looking magazine from your choice of pages that you can give to friends, leave on the coffee table, or refer to while you're raiding.
Sweet! What now?
On this page, we'll go through a step-by-step through the process of creating a magazine.
Creating a Magazine, Step-By-Step
Step One: Start the process
You might have noticed there's a new box in the left area of the page called "Magazine Creator". Click on the image or the link below it to start the process.
If the "Magazine Creator widget" isn't there, visit Special:Widgets and drag-and-drop it in the sidebar.
Step Two: Select your articles
You'll notice that a toolbar appears at the top, and a box appearing in the middle of the page. Click "Collect articles", and you'll be returned to the wiki. Now, you can just browse around as normal, but the toolbar will stay at the top.
Once you've found an article you want to add to the toolbar, just click the "Add" button. (You'll be able to add content pages only.) Once you're done, click "Go to my magazine".
Step Three: Reorder your articles
Once you've got some articles selected, you probably want to put them in an order that works - weapons by size from pop-gun to BFG, characters from early to modern, episodes by air date, and so on. You can use the grab bars on the left to move articles around. If you've had second thoughts about an article, you can use the red minus button to remove it.
You can only print magazines up to 100 pages, so make sure you don't have too many articles in here. 8-10 is a good guide, but if you're adding a huge article it might be less.
Step Four: Design a cover
Now that your articles are sorted out, you can design a cover. We've included a super simple way of designing a cover, or you can design one yourself and upload it.
The easy way:
- Add a title and subtitle for your magazine.
- Select a colour scheme. It's best to choose a colour scheme that complements any images you might use - black with greys, blue with blues, green with ... you get the picture.
- Click Upload to select an image, and you'll see the images that have been recently uploaded to the wiki. You can choose one of these, or you can upload any other image you want. Make sure that you have the rights to print any image that you select.
- Select a layout you like.
- On to the next step!
The (slightly) hard(er) way:
- Design a full page front cover with any graphics you want.
- Click upload to upload your image.
- Select the fourth layout - this will remove any other elements from the cover and just show your image.
- On to the next step!
Step Five: Preview your article
Great! Now you've created a great looking magazine, you can preview it. Click on the pages or the arrows to flick through your newest creation. If you want to save your magazine to work with it again later, just click "Save your magazine".
Now that's all done, you can publish the magazine through our partner, MagCloud. Click Publish to head to the next step.
Step Six: Sign in to MagCloud
If you've never used MagCloud before, you'll now see the MagCloud login / signup screen. If you've got an account already, just sign in. If you don't, just sign up.
Step Seven: Automatic uploading
You'll then be taken back to Wikia - you don't have to do anything in this step. We'll upload the magazine straight into your MagCloud account - it might take a couple of minutes, so time enough to put some tea on, or surf more Wikia.
Step Eight: Your Issue
That's it! Once your magazine has uploaded, you'll be looking at your magazine on MagCloud's site. From here you share the magazine with your friends, or you can order it for delivery.
Easy peasy!
FAQ
If you're all about magazine creation, you might have some questions. Questions are good!
- Q: I'm adding in a bunch of articles, and some of the later ones aren't in my magazine. What's up with that?
- A: You can only print articles up to 100 pages in length, and some articles on Wikia are pretty long! Check that you're not going over the limit.
- Q: I made a cover, but it doesn't go edge to edge on the cover. Hurm.
- A: Yep - right now, any image you put on the front is going to have a white border around it, and you won't be able to go to edge to edge (full bleed). If you want your image to blend it, best to use one with a transparent or white background.
